On this day in 1840 Queen Victoria married her cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in the Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace.

She wore a dress of heavy white satin trimmed with Honiton lace, a Honiton lace veil and flat shoes of white satin trimmed with bands of ribbon. Long ribbon ties fastening round the ankles held the shoes in place.They were made by Gundry and Son, 1 Soho Square, Boot and Shoemakers to the Queen. long pieces for formal style occasions
